What is Counselling?

Going through a difficult period in life or struggling with negative thoughts and emotions is what makes us human. Every journey worth taking is full of bumps in the road. It is about how we overcome such challenges in order to arrive at our desired destination, that’s what counts.

The art of counselling is a talking therapy which holds a safe space for you to speak honestly about your past experiences, thoughts, feelings and struggles in a confidential environment with a professional qualified in psychology. Your counsellor will guide the conversation using gentle prompts to unearth the barriers that are holding you back and provide methods of coping and growing into a more content, resilient and mindful version of yourself.

Counselling gives the gift of being self-aware, thinking and feeling with clarity and having the tools to heal and grow. Many people have considered counselling in order to change their lives, however, it can be hard to take the plunge. The thought of being vulnerable can feel overwhelming, it’s certainly not easy opening up to someone about your innermost thoughts and feelings, but great progress requires great effort. Making the decision to seek help and address the challenges you are facing is an important first step and one that should be commended.

Counselling can take place face to face, over the phone or via video call. Sessions typically last 60 minutes and take place on a regular basis. In most cases, one session is not enough as counselling is a process which requires time and consistency.

“He managed to open up my mind to completely new ideas and possibilities I hadn’t even come close to thinking of myself. I haven’t been this happy for a long time and it is because of Jon I have been able to find a part of me I really did think I had lost forever.”
